Shrubs up to 3 m high, milky latex present, stem woody at base, hollow, glabrous or minutely puberulent. Leaves alternate, exstipulate, simple; petiole 4-10 cm, pink tinged, puberulent; leaf blade ovate to lanceolate, 11-25 cm x 7-11 cm, truncate to shallowly cordate basally, acute, retuse or long acuminate apically, puberulent on both surfaces. Inflorescence axillary, few-flowered pedunculate cymes or paniculate; peduncle up to 15 cm long, puberulent; bracts 6-8 mm long, pubescent, caducous; pedicels variable, up to 1 cm long, pubescent or glandular pubescent. Flowers large, ca. 7 cm x 7 cm, actinomorphic, bisexual, 5-merous, hypogynous. Sepals 5, free, suborbicular, 5-8 mm long, subcoriaceous, glabrous or pubescent. Corolla deep pink to rose-purple, trumpet-shaped, ca. 7 cm x 7 cm; tube short; limb spreading, lobes 5, obsolete; corolla pubescent on midpetaline band. Stamens 5, included, inserted at base of corolla tube; filaments filiform, unequal, 1.1-2.5 cm long, basally dilated and pink glandular pubescent; anthers linear or narrowly ovate, ca. 6 mm long, longitudinally dehiscent, shortly sagittate at base. Disc annular. Carpels 2, syncarpous; ovary ca. 3 mm x 2 mm, 2-locular, 2 ovules per loculus; style 1, ca. 1.6 mm long, pubescent in basal part; stigma globular, 1 mm x 1.7 mm, bilobed. Fruit capsular, ovoid to subglobose with a stiff mucro, 2 cm long, glabrous. Seeds 6-7 mm long, densely covered with long comose brown trichomes.

Flowering and Fruiting: September to November.
